Viral Infection

Clear the Virus. Protect the Skin.

Viral skin infections range from warts and molluscum to cold sores and shingles. Some are highly contagious, others are painful or recurrent. At Muthu Skin, Hair & Laser Clinic, our dermatologists provide precise diagnosis, safe removal, antiviral therapy, and relapse prevention tailored to Indian skin.

Common Viral Conditions We Treat

  • Warts (HPV): plantar (foot), periungual (around nails), filiform (face), plane (flat)

  • Molluscum contagiosum: small, dome-shaped, umbilicated bumps – common in kids & athletes

  • Herpes simplex (HSV-1/2): called as cold sores. Can present as mucosal lesions. Tingling → blisters → crusts

  • Shingles (Herpes zoster): painful, band-like blisters on one side; risk of nerve pain (PHN)

  • Viral exanthems / Hand-Foot-Mouth (HFMD): fever with mouth/hand/foot spots (supportive care)

When to See a Dermatologist Urgently

  • Eye involvement (rash near eye, vision change)

  • Severe pain, facial weakness, or rash in ear (possible zoster complications)

  • Immunocompromised, pregnant, infants with widespread lesions

  • Rapidly spreading blisters, fever, or secondary pus/oozing

Home & After-Care Tips

  • Keep lesions clean, dry, and covered as advised

  • Do not pop or pick blisters/bumps; can scar and spread virus

  • Use separate towels; wash clothes/linens in hot water during active phase

  • For cold sores, avoid sharing cups, lipsticks, instruments

  • Sun-protect lips/skin; sun can trigger cold sores in some people
